Here is a service repair instruction on how to adjust idle speed for Volvo A40 articulated hauler.More repair service you need install:Volvo PROSIS Parts+Service Manual
Pre-Conditions:
Before checking engine speeds, make sure that the engine, transmission and hydraulic system are at normal operating temperature.
During checking, turn off functions/components that use a lot of electric power and turn off the AC, if installed.
1.Park the machine in the service position on a level surface. Raise the engine hood.
2.Connect the service display unit to the socket located to the left under the instrument panel, see [Invalid linktarget].
3.Bring up figure 4.11 on the service display, see [Invalid linktarget] .
(Figure 4.1 on information display unit)
4.Wait until the engine, transmission and the hydraulic system have reached normal operating temperature before checking engine speeds.
5.Turn off components that use a lot of electric power and turn off the AC, if installed.
Low idle speed, checking and adjusting
6.Check that the throttle arm on the injection pump returns all the way to the stop bolt for low idle speed when the throttle pedal is released. Adjust and grease the throttle control if required.
7.Let the engine run without increasing the engine speed.
Read off service display figure 4.11.
The engine speed should be 675±50 rpm.
8.If needed, adjust according to the following:
Loosen the nut on the adjusting screw (1), see [Invalid linktarget].
Adjust the engine speed with the adjusting screw (1).
Tighten the nut on the adjusting screw and check the engine speed once again.
High idle speed, checking and adjusting
9.With the engine turned off, check that the throttle arm on the injection pump reaches the stop bolt for high engine speed when the throttle pedal is depressed completely. Adjust the throttle control if needed.
10.Start the engine and let it run at maximum speed.
Read off service display figure 4.11.
The engine speed should be 2320 ±50 rpm.
Adjustments and settings of functions affixed with a lock/seal must only be serviced by workshops authorized by Volvo or Bosch.
11.If needed, adjust according to the following:
Break off the seal and loosen the nut on the adjusting screw (2), see [Invalid linktarget].
Adjust the engine speed with the adjusting screw (2), see [Invalid linktarget] .
Tighten the nut on the adjusting screw and check the engine speed once again.
Affix a seal on the adjusting screw.
Check and adjust, if needed, the throttle control after engine speed adjustments. The stop bolt under the throttle pedal should relieve the throttle cable in maximum throttle position, see [Invalid linktarget] .
