Cat ET Intake Valve Actuator Test manual mode allows troubleshooting a specific intake valve actuator. This is done by energizing an individual intake valve actuator. All intake valve actuators are deenergized at the start of the test, and only one actuator may be energized at a time.

To start the automated test:
1 Click the Start button. The Select Intake Valve Actuator Test screen is displayed.
2 Click the Manual Intake Valve Actuator Test radio button, and then click Continue>>. The Intake Valve Actuator Test Conditions screen is displayed.
3 When the service conditions are met, click Continue>> to begin the test.
Note: The Test will not run unless all test conditions are met. If service conditions are not met, the Intake Valve Actuator Test Aborted screen is displayed, noting the reason(s) the test was stopped. Click <<Back to return to the Intake Valve Actuator Test screen.
4 If test conditions are met, a warning box displays the following message:
Running this test will cause significant engine smoke.
This test should be run in a well-ventilated area.
Click OK to continue the test, or click Stop to abort the test and return to the Intake Valve Actuator Test main screen.
5 A WARNING message box may be displayed if:
If the cooling fan is controlled by the ECM. Click OK to continue the test, or click Stop to abort the test without turning on the cooling fan.
If the engine speed is controlled by the ECM. Click OK to continue the test. The Intake Valve Actuator Test main screen will be displayed in automated test mode. Click Stop to abort the test without adjusting engine speed.
Note: Clicking Stop causes the shutdown process to begin. During this process, the engine speed automatically increases, and a progress bar displays the completion status of the increase. Then, as the increased engine speed is maintained for a specific amount of time, the progress bar displays the progress of the maintained increased engine speed. The Test Stopped by User message box displays post-test instructions.
6 To troubleshoot a specific intake valve actuator, double-click the actuator to be tested, or highlight it and click the Change button. This will energize the intake valve actuator to be tested.
Note: The selected intake valve actuator will stay energized for five seconds only, and then the service tool will return the state to de-energized. Only one actuator can be energized at a time.
Note: The intake valve actuators can be tested a limited number of times. When this limit has been reached, a message box will be displayed. Click OK. To continue testing, the Intake Valve Actuator Test must be exited.
7 Click Stop to end the Intake Valve Actuator Test in manual mode.
