Ford Mustang USB Interface Can Not Charge for Phone

Several days ago,my frind Bao share a this real auto repair case on how to solve Ford Mustang USB interface can’t charge for phone.And I put it here,hope it would provide some useful advice to friends who suffer from this simlar trouble.

 

Vehicle Information:

Vehicle Model:   Ford Mustang

Year:           2015

Engine:         2.5L Turbocharged engine

Mile:           about 5,600 miles

 

Trouble Testing:

There are two USB interface on the Ford Mustang:

• One is located on the panel of Center Console .(It was verified that can not charge for phone)

• The other is located on the media integration module near armrest box.(It was also verified that can not charge for phone)

 

Trobule Diagnosis:

Inserted a SD card into the card slot of media integration module,but found SYNC module could not identify the SD card.So technicians suspected that the fuse of media integration module was fusing.Then checked the fusing function on the user manual,but didn’t find the power supply is related to fuse.

 

After removing the SYNC module and media center integration module and found the SYNC module is connected to the USB interface on the media center integration module by a data line with further checking.And with the scrutiny on the data line,it was work correctly and without any damaged and squeeze.

 

There is a convertor on the data line show as below picture.Disconnected the convertor,and it show that the data line on the media center integrated module side is same as common phone USB data line,only difference on the connector.So repalced it with common phone USB data line and bypassed the media center integrated module,the used the data line to charge for phone,and it worked! It mean there have trobule with media center integrated module or relevent wire harness.

Removed the media center integrated module,and disconnect the C3618 wire connector to detect the wire connector..And found the power supply line and GND work normally,so it most likely that media center integrated module was damaged.

Troubleshooting:

Replaced a new media center integrated module,then tested the USB interface work correctly and it can verify the SD card you insert into the card slot.
