G-scan2 Perform Idle Air Volume Learning for Nissan

We have received quite a number of reports from G-scan user about Nissan’s idle air volume learning function.We observed such misconception out there where some users think G-scan is not doing this job when it actually needs to be perform under certain conditions.Also as the service manual suggests,it can be done manually as well!

When do you need to perform Nissan Idle Air Volume Learning?

1.When ECM or ETC(Electric Throttle Control actuator) is replaced

2.When ECM or ETC are disconnected for cleanning purpose.

What are the preconditions?

Battery voltage=more than 12.9V(at idle)

Engine Coolant Temp.=70-95 Deg.C

All Electric Load OFF (Headlamp,AC,etc..)

Steering Wheel=Straight position

Transmission=P or Neutral

Vehicle Speed=Stopped

Here you will see two separate function of idle air volume learning.Don’t worry that,if your car uses KWP protocol which means manufactured in early 2000s you will see both.

However,if your car uses CAN system which is manufactured late 2000s you will just see the “Idle Air Volume Learning”

G scan2 Idle Air Volume Learning Introduction

<Summary>

Idle RPM control minimum air volume learning from the idling air volume can be conducted when the following conditions are fulfilled after the replacement of the Electronic Control Throttle and ECCS Control Unit.

<Objective>

When the Electronic Control Throttle or ECCS Control Unit disconnected,the system needs to learn the Closed Throttle Position (Closed Throttle Sensor Output Learning) after the reinstallation.(Idle Air Volume Learning is not necessary)

When the Electronic Control Throttle or ECCS Control Unit is replaced,the system needs to learn the Minimum Idling Air Volume by conducting Closed Throttle Position Learning and Quick TAS Learning.

When the Idling RPM or the Ignition Timing is out of the standard range,Idle Air Volume Learning needs to be conducted.

Briefly,Idle Air Volume Learning is equivalent to the IAS Idle Base RPM Adjustment function of the old systems.

It is simple,but like I mentioned earlier there are some types that needs to be performed manually.

Idle Air Volume Learing-Manual Procedures

Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning

1.Make sure the accelerator pedal is fully released

2.Turn ignition switch ON and wait at least 2 seconds

3.Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds

4.Turn ignition switch ON and wait at least 2 seconds

5.Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds

Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning

1.Make sure the accelerator pedal is fully released

2.Turn ignition switch ON

3.Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds

Make sure the throttle value moves by confirming the operating sound

Idle Air Volume Learning(Manual)

(Proceed this procedure following the two previous procedures)

1.Make sure all the preconditions are satisfied

2.Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds

3.Confirm the pedal is fully released

4.Turn ignition switch ON and wait 3 seconds

5.Repeat the following procedure quickly 5 times within 5 seconds

Fully depress the accelerator pedal

Fully release the accelerator pedal

6.Wait 7 seconds,fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approximately 20 seconds until the MIL(Check Engine Light) stops blinking and turning ON.

7.Fully release the accelerator pedal within 3 seconds after the MIL turned ON

8.Start the engine and let it idle

9.Wait for 20 seconds

10.Rev up the engine two or three times and make sure that idle speed is within the specification

(Idle speed Specification 700±50)
