How to Configure Chassis Angle Sensor for JCB 3CX/4CX/5CX

The procedure outlined below describes how to configure a replacement chassis angle sensor (728/E2897) on the JCB Pilemaster machine. This process does not require any additional tooling or diagnostics equipment and is carried out through the rear display service menu.

Chassis Angle Sensor Configuration Procedure

Accessing the Rear Display Service Menu

1 Ensure the machine’s ignition is turned OFF.

2 Disconnect the mast angle sensor. The position of the mast angle sensor is shown below.

 

3 Ensure that all of the emergency stop buttons are ‘out’ and have not been pressed.

4 Turn the machine’s ignition ON.

5 Ensure the rear display is ON and wait for the drill information screen to show.

Note: if the rear display does not switch ON, re-check the emergency stop buttons.

6 Press and hold both the F1 and F2 buttons. Wait 5 seconds and then press the OK button whilst still holding down the F1 and F2 buttons.

7 The display should now show the service menu.

8 The menu items are selectable by pressing the UP and DOWN arrows.

9 To access an option, press the OK button.

10 To exit the menu, select “exit” and press the OK button.

 

Chassis Angle Sensor Configuration

1 Select “angle sensor configuration” and press the OK button.

2 A confirmation screen will show stating that the mast angle sensor must be disconnected before continuing.

3 If the mast angle sensor has been disconnected, press the F2 button and the chassis angle sensor will be configured. Pressing the F3 button will abort the process.

4 Once the sensor has been configured (or aborted), the display will return to the service menu screen.

5 Exit the service menu screen and turn the machine’s ignition OFF.

6 Re-connect the mast angle sensor.

 

Checking the Angle Sensors Operation

1 Turn the machine’s ignition ON and start the engine.

2 Change the display from the drill information screen to the angle information screen by pressing the UP or DOWN button.

3 Extend the stabiliser legs to full extension. The upper two segments will react to the changes in angles from the chassis angle sensor.

4 Move the boom up and down. The lower two segments will react to the changes in angles from the mast angle sensor.

5 Once the angle sensors have been confirmed as operating, return the drill end to the ‘travel’ position and retract the stabiliser legs fully.

6 Turn the engine OFF.
