How to Install Down pipe for 2015+ Subaru WRX

This instruction will show you guide on how to install stainless steel down pipe for the 2015+ Subaru WRX. The down pipe we’re going to be installing comes with a high flow cap, this is also offered in a capless version . we’re also going to be installing it on our six-speed manual transmission WRX , so it includes bracket. If you have a CVT transmission car ,you is going to come with a different bracket.

Tools we need

FLAT-HEAD SCREWDRIVER

12MM DEEP SOCKET

14MM DEEP SOCKET

15MM DEEP SOCKET

3/8 DRIVE 6” EXTENSION

3/8 DRIVER SWIVEL SOCKET

3/8 DRIVE RATCHET

POP-CLIP PLIERS

10MM RATCHET WRENCH

12MM RATCHET WRENCH

14MM RATCHET WRENCH

22MM WRENCH

 

Procedures:

Raise vehicle securely on jack stands or a two-post lift, remove the plastic under tray (9XLarge clips, 4X Small clips, 2X 12mm bolts)

Remove the aluminum under stray (4X 14mm bolts)

Dis connect both O2(oxygen) sensors. Each sensor has a unique plug.

Remove the O2 sensors

Remove the bolts and bracket on the bottom of the water pump.(1X 14mm bolt, 1X 12mm bolt)

Remove the down pipe bolt underneath the water pump (1X 14mm bolt)

Loosen the turbo-to-down pipe nuts.Remove the top two nuts and the mounting bracket as well. (4X 14mm bolts)

Remove the small bracket to the left of the water pump

Remove the ground strap for the exhaust and set aside.

Remove the rear spring bolts from the exhaust flange. (2X 12mm, 2X 14mm)

Remove bracket bolt from the down pipe-to-transmission mount

Remove the loosened turbo-to-down pipe nuts and the stock down pipe from the vehicle

Replace the lower sub frame bolts(2X 14mm bolts& 15mm bolts)

Remove the do nut gasket from the stock exhaust and swap it onto the 3”-to-2.5” adapter

Replace any damaged studs with the supplied studs in the kit.

Install the supplied turbo-to-down pipe gasket.

Install but don’t fully tighten the supplied transmission mount bracket onto the down pipe.

Install the down pipe and hand-tight the down pipe-to-transmission bracket.

Reinstall the top down pipe bracket onto the studs.

Place the supplied 3” gasket over the adapter and slide it into place.

Using the supplied stainless steel hardware. Install the adapter onto the end of the down pipe

Using a torque wrench, tighten the four turbo-to-down pipe nuts to 28-32 ft-lb.

Attach the lower bolt for the down pipe mounting bracket.

Attache the small bracket to the left side of the water pump

Reattach the bracket to the bottom of the water pump

Then fully tighten all hardware for these three brackets

Reinstall and connect the O2 sensors.

Reattach the ground strap to the exhaust

Tighten the down pipe-to-transmission bolt and the bracket bolts to the transmission mount

Tighten the rear exhaust bolt&nuts

Check the extra O2 bung

Reinstall the aluminum under tray and plastic under tray.

Down pipe Installation is completed.
