Isuzu Commercial Truck of America is sending this bulletin to remind dealers to strictly follow the procedures set forth in the shop manuals when conducting brake inspections or brake repairs, including replacing brake pads, on Isuzu trucks equipped with disc brakes. It is important to keep in mind that delaying or skipping brake maintenance, including inspections (to be performed every 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever occurs first) can lead to damage to the vehicle’s braking system. Also, not following the specified procedures when conducting brake repairs, including replacing brake pads, can cause the brake pads to wear out early and, in turn, damage the vehicles’ braking system.

Specifically, be sure to compress the front brake caliper pistons into the caliper by pushing from the center of the piston, not from the edge of the piston. Pushing from the edge of the piston can damage the piston, the caliper and the piston boot.
NOTE: If the piston boot is swollen with air, pinch the boot with your fingers and move the boot towards the piston to allow air to escape. Once the brake caliper is reassembled with brake pads, the piston boot should not touch the back of the brake pad.
