Liebherr R9600 Excavator Travel Gear Oil Change Guide

This instruction show you guide on how to change travel gear for Liebherr R9600 excavator.

Procedures:

Check the oil level

Make sure that the following preconditions are met:

The machine is safely parked on firm and level ground.

The drain plugs 2 are vertical, at the bottom of the travel gear.

The Diesel engine is stopped.

Remove the plugs carefully.

Remove the filler and level plugs 1.

Get the correct oil level: the oil level must be at the level of the filler and level plugs 1.

Install the filler and level plugs 1 again: tighten to 240 Nm.

If the oil level is not correct:

Tell the supervisor about it immediately.

Make sure that the oil level is corrected immediately.

 

Change the oil

Travel gear: drain the oil

Make sure that the following preconditions are met:

The machine is safely parked on firm and level ground.

The travel gear oil is at operating temperature.

The drain plugs 2 are vertical, at the bottom of the travel gear.

The Diesel engine is stopped.

 

Make sure that the following tools are available:

Used oil container

Put the used oil container below the drain plugs 2.

Remove the plugs carefully.

Remove the filler and level plugs 1.

Remove the drain plugs 2.

Drain the used oil in the used oil container.

When all the used oil is drained, install the drain plugs 2 again: tighten to 240 Nm.

Install the filler and level plugs 1 again: tighten to 240 Nm.

 

Travel gear: flush the travel gear

Make sure that the following preconditions are met:

The travel gear is filled to half-level with new approved oil.

Lift the related track chain off the ground.

Turn the track chain for one minute.

Lower the track chain on the ground again.

Drain the oil from the travel gear.

Fill the travel gear to the correct oil level again.

 

Travel gear: fill with oil

Make sure that the following preconditions are met:

The machine is safely parked on firm and level ground.

The drain plugs 2 are vertical, at the bottom of the travel gear.

The Diesel engine is stopped.

The new oil is approved.

Remove the plugs carefully.

Remove the filler and level plugs 1.

Fill with oil through the hole of one of the filler and level plugs 1.

When you get the correct oil level, install the filler and level plugs 1 again: tighten to 240 Nm

 

Travel gear: change the Lifetime interspace oil

Note

The Lifetime interspace on new travel gears is filled with protective oil.

Before first operation:

u Drain the protective oil from the Lifetime interspace.

u Flush the Lifetime interspace.

u Fill the Lifetime interspace with approved oil.

u Fill the expansion tank compartment for the Lifetime interspace with approved oil.

Travel gear: change the Lifetime interspace oil

Make sure that the following preconditions are met:

The machine is safely parked on firm and level ground.

The Lifetime interspace oil is at operating temperature.

The drain and filler plug 2 is vertical, at the bottom of the travel gear.

The Diesel engine is stopped.

The new oil is approved.

Make sure that the following tools are available:

Drain hose

Used oil container

Remove the plugs carefully.

Remove the bleed plug 1.

Remove the hydraulic hose which is connected to the drain and filler plug 2 and put a plug on the open end of the hydraulic hose.

Attach the drain hose to the drain and filler plug 2.

Drain the used oil into the used oil container.

NOTICE

Overpressure!

Risk of damage to the travel gear.

Operate the hand pump for a short time. The maximum permitted pressure is 3 bar with a pressure peak of 12 bar.

If the Lifetime interspace is clogged:

Remove the material which causes the blockage: operate the hand pump through the bleed plug 1.

Connect the flushing device to the bleed plug 1.

Flush the Lifetime interspace with new approved oil until clean oil flows out from the drain and filler plug 2.

When clean oil flows out from the drain and filler plug 2, remove the drain hose.

Fill the Lifetime interspace with oil with the flushing device through the drain and filler plug 2 until the oil level is at the bleed plug 1.

Remove the flushing device.

Connect the hydraulic hose to the drain and filler plug 2 again.

Install the bleed plug 1 again: tighten to 80 Nm.

Measure the oil level through the sight gauge on the expansion tank.

If the oil level is not correct:

Fill the expansion tank compartment for the Lifetime interspace with oil.
